Jesus was often criticized for His friendship with “tax collectors and sinners,” but in this passage He accepted a dinner invitation from a Pharisee. At last, He associates with “the right sort of people!” they may have thought. Yet Chris shows how, even in the home of a devoutly scrupulous Jew, Jesus taught how His people should respond to God’s forgiveness to others — and also to ourselves.
